Double Bight

A doubled blue rope crosses the image horizontally. A doubled tan rope has been tied in a snug Somerville bowline around the blue rope. Two double lengths of tan rope travel up the image two inches away from the Somerville, then make a yuki knot. A three inch long bight extends out from the yuki knot. The tail of the rope exits to the top of the image.

Protect the bight of your rope by doubling it.

Step by step

A double blue rope crosses the image horizontally. A double tan rope enters from the lower left and is tied around the blue rope with a snug Somerville bowline. The Somerville makes two snug wraps around the blue rope before forming a compact knot with a three inch bight emerging from it.

1a1: Make the double bight

You can add a double bight to any finished hanger.

The tail of the rope has been pulled up so it exits the image to the upper left. A three inch bight has been pulled into the tail and passed through the bight of the Somerville bowline.

1bPass a new bight through the original bight.

Just after the bight, the tail of the rope has been twisted to make a three inch long twist. The rope exits the bight, makes a clockwise loop, and crosses over itself before exiting at the upper left of the image.

2a2: Secure it with a Yuki knot

Make a twist in the upline.

The twist from the previous step has been slid over the bight that passes through the bight of the Somerville, forming a yuki knot.

2bSlide the twist over the double bight.

Make sure the upline is trapped by the twist.
